And That’s a Wrap!
We did it folks. 27 Days later and Match Me If You Can is in the can. What an amazing experience. There were times when we didn’t think we would make it to this point. 2 years ago when we sent out our first cast offer we were so excited…then three days later everything shut down because of Covid. For the next year we kept pushing along trying to plan during such an uncertain time. It was so frustrating but it did give us something to focus on – to look beyond Covid. If we hadn’t had Match Me, 2020 would have been so much more devastating. But having this little film, a story about hope and love, helped all of us stay on track and kept us working towards making it happen.
We ended up having to push 3 times. When we started, the plan was to shoot in Vancouver in Sept 2020. Covid killed that plan. Due to actor’s schedules we pushed to April 2021. Then Sept 2021. Then the loss of a few actors sent us to our final push date of Nov 2021. With the actors dropping out, we lost some crew and a producer but then we found our new actors, and new producers joined us. We found the right mix. The “can do” team. And with that we went into production Nov. 1st. and we never looked back.
Production was like most, issues with locations, cast, equipment, the camera being locked on the 3rd floor of the hospital we were using. But we over came it all and we avoided Covid until Thanksgiving week. And thankfully all were fine. We were able to shift the schedule and resume production after the holiday. By Dec 11th we wrapped in the very early morning: the film in the can and a wrap party that night.
It was a magical time. We all came together and made a beautiful piece of art, and a very entertaining film. There’s always something special about working on a film. When you really think about it, it really shouldn’t work. Things can so easily fall a part. Go to shit in a hand basket, but for some reason – maybe it’s the camaraderie and the absolute “we won’t give up” -ness that a production puts out into the universe… but films find a way to cross over that finish line. It is a miracle every time a film finds itself in the can. And a blessing when it finds itself on a screen entertaining the audience it was made for.
So we did it. We got it in the can. Now into post we go and soon, very soon, we will have a complete and beautiful movie. That we just can’t wait for you to see.
